Austin Peay Football’s Jake Ryan named OVC Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Senior quarterback Jake Ryan, who threw four touchdown passes in Austin Peay’s Senior Day win against Tennessee Tech, Saturday, has been named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Ryan capped his Austin Peay career by completing 27-of-38 passes for 310 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in the Governors 38-31 victory over Tennessee Tech. Three of his four touchdown passes went to senior Devin Stark, including a 23-yard strike in the third quarter that extended the Govs lead to 38-7 (after the team had led 31-0 at halftime).

In the process Ryan became just the second Austin Peay quarterback to throw for over 5,000 yards in his career and he also moved into second place on the APSU career completions list (497).

Over his final eight games of the season Ryan tossed 16 touchdowns against only three interceptions. He threw for more than 300 yards in three of his final four contests.

Ryan’s four touchdown strikes made him the first Gov to throw four or more scores in the same contest since Trent Caffee threw four touchdown passes against Tennessee Tech, October 25th, 2008.

The win was Austin Peay’s first over a Division I opponent this season and snapped a 12-game OVC losing streak dating back to the beginning of last season.

Ryan shares Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors with UT Martin receiver Quentin Sims, who caught eight passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns in the Skyhawks season-finale against Tennessee State. Ryan was the last Gov to earn an Offensive Player of the Week honor, when he carved up Tennessee State with a 21-for-41, 314-yard day October 2nd, 2011.
