APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Basketball
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team has added, as head coach Carrie Daniels would say, “a real gem” to its 2013-14 roster as Jacey Scott, of Douglas, AL, has signed a National Letter of Intent.
Scott is a two-time all-state selection, earning Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 4A Second Team honors last season after earning first-team honors as a sophomore. She averaged 17.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore with 16 double-doubles. She appears in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s record book several times, including twice for scoring 21 points in a quarter.
Scott began her senior season with a 16-point, 7-assist outing against Section High School followed by a 14-point effort against Brindlee Mountain. She also was recently named to AL.com’s A-List of top girls basketball players in Alabama.
“We feel fortunate that Jacey has signed with our program,” said Lady Govs head coach Carrie Daniels. “We feel like we have gotten a real gem. As a coach and staff you are always looking to find better players to advance your program, with Jacey there is no doubt we are headed in the right direction.
“Jacey is a rarity in that she is a true scorer. Jacey also is a versatile player that can play the 1 through the 4 spot but is a true scoring guard. She has great court vision and passing abilities that enables the play of her teammates to rise.”
Scott was ranked 57th among the nation’s guards by ESPN HoopGurlz with a scouts grade of 89. Next Level Sports Services ranked her 40th in the Class of 2013.
A five-sport athlete at Douglas High School, Scott played volleyball and softball and ran cross country up until her junior season. She continued to compete for the track and field team last season and finished third in the shot put and ninth in the javelin at the state championship.
Scott also has excelled in the classroom and is a finalist for Alabama’s Wendy’s High School Heisman. She is ranked second among her class in grade-point average, a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta – a national high school mathematics honor society.
