Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for December 2nd, 2012

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

  • Queen City Road Race Art Contest
  • Christmas on the Cumberland
  • Pictures and Fun with Santa
  • Swim with Santa
  • A Chocolate Affair

Queen City Road Race Art Contest

The Queen City Road Race Art Contest kicks off Monday, December 3rd for students in grades 1st through 5th. Two semi-finalists from each participating school will be selected and will be awarded an art kit and certificate. Among those semi-finalists will be the top three finalists who will be awarded an art kit, certificate and Subway party for their art class.

The overall winning artwork will be featured on the official race T-shirt and event poster. Along with that honor, the top finalist will be awarded $100.00 and a Subway party for their art class, a framed copy of the 2013 Queen City Road Race poster, an art kit and a certificate.

All completed artwork must be submitted to the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department at 102 Public Square no later than 4:30pm on January 11th. Art teachers may arrange for pick-ups at schools no later than January 10th. For more information, visit www.cityofclarksville.com/qcrr.

Christmas on the Cumberland

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and Santa Claus get ready to flip the switch lighting up the 2012 Christmas on the Cumberland

Come enjoy the popular Christmas on the Cumberland walk-through event now through January 5th. Event hours are 5:00pm-10:00pm, Sunday through Thursday and 5:00pm-11:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Pictures and Fun with Santa

Santa Claus will be visiting each of our three community centers once again this year. Families are welcome to have photos taken of their children as they visit Santa, enjoy snacks and games, all at no cost.

Santa will be at the Crow Community Center, located at 211 Richview Road on Monday, December 10th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Santa’s next stop will be, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. on Wednesday, December 12th at the Kleeman Center Community, located at 166 Cunningham Lane. He will be visiting the Burt-Cobb Community Center, located at 1101 Franklin Street, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Thursday, December 13th.

The Kleeman Center will also be reading The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg during Santa’s visit.

Swim with Santa

Indoor Aquatic Center - New ProvidenceThis year your child can Swim with Santa at the Indoor Aquatic Center! Santa will be visiting the pool from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. on Saturday, December 15th and from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, December 16th. Families can enjoy refreshments, crafts with Mrs. Claus and swimming!

Parents don’t forget to bring your cameras to capture your child’s special moment with Santa this year. When Santa heads back to the North Pole, feel free to stick around and swim!

Cost is $5.00 and covers admission to the pool.

A Chocolate Affair

The City of Clarksville and Planters Bank is excited to present the first-ever Chocolate Affair Saturday, February 9th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center. Indulge in a delicious evening sampling chocolate from vendors while enjoying entertainment.

Tickets are only $12.00 per person from now thru December 31st and can be purchased at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main office or online by visiting www.cityofclarksville.com/chocolateaffair and clicking on the “Buy Tickets” link. Tickets will be $15.00 if purchased after December 31st.
