Austin Peay Governors Basketball’s Will Triggs named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Junior forward Will Triggs, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Triggs averaged 22 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games last week, bumping his scoring average up to 11.9 points per game.

The Edwardsville, IL, native had a career night in the OVC Opener against Southeast Missouri.

In addition to playing lockdown defense on preseason All-OVC pick Tyler Stone, Triggs scored a career-high 29 points on 14-of-17 shooting and added a season-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double since November 21st, 2011 against Bowling Green.

Triggs had another strong performance at UT Martin, Saturday, scoring 15 points and adding six rebounds in the overtime loss.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior Leslie Martinez, of the women’s basketball team, averaged 14 points and 11.5 rebounds last week for the Lady Govs. She pulled down a career-best 14 rebounds in the OVC opener at Southeast Missouri before equaling her season high with a 20-point performance at UT Martin.
  • Junior Travis Betran, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 26 points per game last week, beginning with a career-best 30-point night at Southeast Missouri in the OVC opener that included a career-high six three-pointers. Betran scored 22 to go with a career-best six assists at UT Martin, Saturday.
  • Senior Chantelle Grey, of the women’s track and field team, won the 800m run at the Ed Temple Invitational, Saturday with a 2:16.30 mark that bested the field by nearly five seconds. She also contributed on the 4x400m relay team that finished third.
