Clarksville Police report Car Stolen after Keys were left in an Unlocked Vehicle

Clarksville Police wants to make the public aware of the dangers of leaving your keys in an unattended vehicle

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On January 25th, 2013, around 8:45am, a 20 year old woman parked her 2005 Nissan Altima at the gas pumps at the Shell Station, 600 Rossview Road. She left the keys inside of the vehicle (allegedly not running) and went into the Shell Station.

When she returned to her vehicle, it had been driven off by an unknown person. The vehicle was spotted by Sgt Scott Hendrickson on the 76 Connector shortly after the theft. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled onto I-24 eastbound at a high rate of speed.

A be on the lookout was issued on the vehicle to local and surrounding areas. Around 2:45pm, Officer Jack Hemmingsen found and recovered the stolen vehicle, unoccupied, at 920 Power Street, in front of Lot 9.

After reviewing the video, it was determined the suspect stood by the brick pillars at the gas pumps, waited for a customer to leave the vehicle, and then look to see whether the keys were in the vehicle. He had looked at five other cars prior to stealing the Nissan.

You can also see from the video, the victim had not made even made it into the store before the car was stolen.  Additionally, about 20 minutes prior to the theft, the suspect was seen walking on Warfield Boulevard in front of the Rite-Aid and then crossing to the Shell Station.

Witnesses described the suspect as a male in his 30s, 5’11”, 150-170 lbs with a goatee.
