She also tossed a complete game against Furman, allowing just two earned runs and striking out four in the loss.

de Castro’s bat was a huge part of the Lady Govs offense. She led Austin Peay with a .545 (6-for-11) average at the Plainsman Invitational, and tied for the team lead with two runs scored. She finished the weekend with no errors in 16 chances in the field, splitting time between first base and the circle.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Senior Chantelle Grey, of the women’s track and field team, placed 11th at the Spire Invitational, finishing with a 2:07.69 mark. That moves her to the top of the Ohio Valley Conference and 35th nationally.
  • Junior Travis Betran, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 25 points and picked up his sixth OVC Newcomer of the Week honor for his performances against Tennessee State and Belmont. He scored a game-high 28 points in overtime against TSU and had a 22-point effort against Belmont. His six Newcomer of the Week awards equal the total achieved by Southeast Missouri’s Tyler Stone last season; he was the only newcomer to earn All-OVC honors in 2011-12.
  • Sophomore Aleksas Tverijonas, of the men’s tennis team, picked up two wins in No. 4 singles and teamed with John Storie for two victories in No. 3 doubles against Chattanooga and Abilene Christian over the weekend. In Saturday’s match against Abilene Christian, he destroyed Jason Proctor (6-2, 6-0) in singles and, along with Storie, dispatched Marco Bensley and Kyle Plum 8-1 in doubles.
