Chantelle Grey named APSU Athlete of the Week

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Senior Chantelle Grey, of the Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Grey was the dominant athlete for the Lady Govs at last weekend’s Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Eastern Illinois. Her 2:12.61 mark in the 800m run won the event by nearly three seconds over her next closest competition. In victory, she became the first Lady Gov to win gold in the indoor 800m since Sheena Gooding won four years in a row (1999-2002) during her Hall of Fame career.

Austin Peay Governors Baseball team wins slug-fest over Southern Illinois

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Junior Craig Massoni drove in six runs for the Austin Peay State University baseball team, Tuesday afternoon at Raymond C. Hand Park — including two in the pivotal sixth inning — as the Govs ran their winning streak to six games with an 11-8 win over Southern Illinois.

Clarksville-Area Chamber of Commerce hosted Fourth annual Home and Garden Show

 

Clarksville Chamber of Commerce Home and Garden ShowClarksville, TN – On February 23rd and 24th, the Clarksville-Area Chamber of Commerce held their fourth annual Home and Garden show at the Foy Fitness Center on Austin Peay State University.

The show was sponsored by the Clarksville-Area Chamber of Commerce, the Leaf Chronicle, and Furniture Connection. 57 Vendors were on hand to offer Clarksvillians tips on getting ready for the rapidly approaching spring.

Austin Peay State University Dance Program expands Reputation

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In 2005, Austin Peay State University developed a dance minor program with one faculty member and a handful of students. Seven years later, the program has three full-time faculty members and several graduates enrolled in Master of Fine Arts programs around the country.

The name “Austin Peay” is also becoming more familiar in collegiate dance circles, with the school having choreographed pieces selected two years in a row to be performed at the American College Dance Festival gala performance.

Clarksville Academy introduces new Polar Cardio GX Training System

 

Clarksville AcademyClarksville, TN – Clarksville Academy continues to lead in enriching the education for today’s students with the use of technology. CA’s recent addition is the Polar Cardio GX Training System, which tracks and provides feedback for individual fitness performance via an electronic sensor.

Each student wears a sensor, built into an adjustable belt that is worn just below the chest. The feedback from the sensor is delivered by Bluetooth connection to the student and teacher’s iPad or Macbook.

Clarksville Police arrest Woman for Child Abuse after Neighbor hears Child’s Screams

 

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On February 25th, 2013, around midnight, 911 received a call from a neighbor of 331 Market Street, in reference to hearing a woman hitting her son and the child screaming. There was enough of a disturbance that a group started gathering outside of the apartment and was ready to enter and stop the female.

When Clarksville Police Officers arrived, they were lead to the outside of the apartment’s window and could hear screaming and slapping coming from inside of the residence. The child sounded like he was in distress.

Fort Campbell Battalion Level Flag Football Tournament

 

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Just when you thought football was over! Family & MWR Sports and Fitness is holding a Flag Football Tournament starting on March 11th.

Games will be held at Perez Field and Fryar Stadium from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The duration of the tournament will depend on the number of teams participating.

Clarksville Police report Man shot after argument about not helping around the house

 

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On February 25th, 2013 around 9:00pm, Clarksville Police Officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired at the K building of the apartments at 2190 Memorial Drive.

When officers arrived they found Anthony Rhodes, 42, had been shot in the neck inside of apartment K-155. He was transported to Gateway Medical Center by ambulance, treated, and released. The investigation was turned over to Detective Kagan Dindar.

Austin Peay Governors Baseball’s Jordan Hankins named Tennessee Sport Writers Association’s Player of the Week

 

Governors named Central Region Team of the Week

Tennessee Sports Writers AssociationClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University second baseman Jordan Hankins was named the Tennessee Sport Writers Association’s Player of the Week, Tuesday. In addition, the Govs baseball team was named the Central Region Team of the Week by the CollegeBaseballInsider.com website.

Hankins, of Wentzville, MO, went 9-for-18 in four games last week, posting a multi-hit performance in each game. He went 2-for-4 with a walk and RBI in a midweek victory at Middle Tennessee.
