McCollum, who currently is Georgia Tech’s defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator, officially withdrew his name late Saturday after multiple reports surfaced that he would turn down APSU’s invitation for an interview.

A tight end/offensive lineman for the Governors from 1977-80, McCollum was a member of APSU’s 1977 OVC title team. The former Middle Tennessee head coach was scheduled to be interviewed on campus Monday for the APSU head coaching position after previously interviewing via phone by the search committee.

But now the next candidate to be interviewed will be former APSU offensive line coach Mike Markuson, Tuesday. Navy offensive line coach Ashley Ingram will be interviewed Wednesday, followed by Wisconsin-Whitewater head coach Lance Leopold, Thursday

Earlier this week, Central Michigan defensive backs coach Kirby Cannon was interviewed followed by APSU defensive coordinator Granville Eastman.

The position became open when Rick Christophel, who had served as APSU’s coach for the past six seasons, resigned in late January to become tight ends coach with the Arizona Cardinals.
