APSU Baseball’s Cody Hudson named Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Senior outfielder Cody Hudson, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Germantown native hit .500 (11-for-22) in five games last week, leading the Govs to a 5-0 record that included four come-from-behind victories. He drove in 11 runs, scoring five himself, and added a home run, a double and three stolen bases.

Hudson had three game-winning hits last week, including two walk-offs. He began the week with a walk-off three-run home run in the Govs 10-7 victory against Michigan State. He added a walk-off suicide squeeze in the 10th inning against Milwaukee, Saturday, and a game-winning two-run double against Creighton.

All five of Hudson’s games last week were multi-hit affairs: He was 2-for-5 against Michigan State, 2-for-4 against Western Kentucky, 2-for-4 against Milwaukee, 3-for-5 against Creighton and 2-for-4 against UALR.

In addition to winning adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors, Hudson has been named Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Week, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Player of the Week and Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by CollegeBaseballInsider.com.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Senior Sean Bailey, of the men’s tennis team, easily dispatched Northern Kentucky’s Guillaume Berman (6-2, 6-1) in No. 1 singles, Saturday, before teaming with Jasmin Ademovic to take down Berman and Andre Correa (8-4) in No. 1 doubles.
  • Junior pitcher/first baseman Lauren de Castro, of the softball team, hit .500 (6-for-12) with a home run, two doubles and two RBI as the Lady Govs split their four games at Louisville’s Red and Black Classic last weekend. She also tossed eight innings for a complete-game, 4-3 win against Miami (Ohio) in the tournament opener.
  • Junior Andra Cornea, of the women’s tennis team, was rarely tested against Northern Kentucky, Saturday. She destroyed Shana Kleynen (6-0, 6-1) in No. 3 sinlges and, along with sophomore Orneall Di Salvo, knocked off Claire Spradlin and Marta Romeo (8-1) in No. 1 doubles.
  • Senior closer Tyler Rogers, of the baseball team, didn’t allow an earned run in four appearances last week. He picked up victories in relief against Michigan State, Milwaukee and Creighton and notched his season’s sixth save against Western Kentucky.   • Junior Marco Iten, of the men’s golf team, took second place with an even-par 216 (70-74-72) after leading the Govs to a spring-opening victory at the Harmony Golf Preserve Intercollegiate last week. He was named adidas® OVC Male co-Golfer of the Week, sharing the award with Murray State’s Patrick Newcomb.
