APSU names Tyler Rogers Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Senior closer Tyler Rogers, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Rogers shared Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week honors with Jacksonville State’s Casey Antley after picking up a win and two saves last week, giving him eight saves and four wins in 2013. He leads the OVC in both categories and has not allowed an earned run this season.

The Littleton, CO, native earned his career’s 20th save thanks to a scoreless ninth inning at Eastern Illinois, Saturday, tying him with Daniel Tenholder for most in Austin Peay history.

For Rogers, the weekly honor from the OVC was his second in a row and third of his career.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Sophomore Aleksas Tverijonas, of the men’s tennis team, ran his streak of singles victories to 10 in a row, taking two in No. 4 singles against Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State over the weekend. The Lithuanian has not lost a match in dual play since April 21, 2012 and has only been pushed to three sets twice in 2013.
  • Junior Kayla Davidson, of the softball team, hit .611 (11-for-18) with three home runs, two doubles and six RBI for the Lady Govs last week. The South Fulton, Tenn., native scored eight runs in seven games, and saw five of her 11 hits go for extra bases.
