Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – With an eight-match winning streak already on the books, Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team hits the road for the first of three Ohio Valley Conference road matches, against SIU Edwardsville (Friday, 6:00pm) and Eastern Illinois (Sunday, 1:00pm)

The Govs top four individual players are among the best the OVC has to offer, and they have proved that through the early part of the season.

Sophomore Aleksas Tverijonas remains undefeated in spring dual play, running his record to 10-0 after defeating Morehead State’s David Clifford 7-5, 6-4, Sunday. Senior Sean Bailey, junior Jasmin Ademovic and sophomore Dimitar Ristovski each have at least seven wins in spring play.

“Aleksas and Dimitar have done a great job,” said head coach Ross Brown. “The guys are handling things in a very professional way and are working very hard.”

Sophomore Iago Seffrin, who has been limited in recent weeks due to nagging injury, is scheduled to play singles for the first time since February 23rd.

“Having Iago back in singles will make a difference,” Brown said. “It’s been great for Evan Borowski to get some time in singles; it’s been great for his development.”

SIU Edwardsville (5-3) is opening its OVC slate amidst a two-match losing streak, after falling to Presbyterian (4-3) and St. Joseph’s (6-1), March 5-6. The Cougars got a two-week break before opening conference play with four matches over the next seven days.  Freshman Nico Kuehn has been an unsung hero at the bottom of the charts for the Cougars, going 6-1 at No. 5 singles to open his collegiate career.

After beginning the season by winning three of its first four matches, Eastern Illinois (4-3) had lost two straight before rebounding with a 5-2 victory against Chicago State, Tuesday. This will be just the second home match for the Panthers, who defeated Dayton, 5-2, in their only other home date, February 17th. No Panther boasts a winning streak of more than two matches or a record of better than 4-3 during the dual season.
