Despite the cold weather, over 100 children took part in the event. There were 5,000 eggs scattered between four separate lanes on the field. Each section had two eggs with prize tickets inside. The children were also given a ticket which gave them a chance at three door prizes at the end of the hunt.

“It took 10 people 5 days to do the 5,000 eggs. Every year we try to make it bigger,” stated William Jackson with the Cunningham Fire Department. “We also had over 6,000 pieces of candy.”

The easter egg hunt was broken down into four age groups; ages 2 and under, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-11. The 2 and under group lined up first. Once they were started, each of the following groups were lined and given the green light to go.

In no time, the ground was sweep clean of eggs. When it was over, the kids sat around their piles of eggs going through them looking for a prize ticket. Everyone had a good time.

“It went really well today. We had alot of kids out here, somewhere just over 100. That was pretty good considering the cold weather,” said Jackson.

The prizes for each age group were stuffed easter rabbits. The door prizes were easter baskets filled with candy.

“I thought it was a wonderful thing they did for the community,” stated Ashley Gallaher. “I support them 100 percent.”

“This year’s event was a little different. We lost one of our biggest supporters of this event last year, Kim Burns,” said Jackson. “Most of the people stuffing eggs this year were her family just trying to keep her legacy alive.”

Jackson also stated, “We just want to keep doing what were doing, neighbors helping neighbors.”

If you missed this years easter egg hunt, make your calender and make sure to come out next year.
