Austin Peay State University Lady Govs Softball renews rivalry with Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN — Austin Peay State University’s softball team will renew an old rivalry, 1:00pm, Wednesday as it travels 82 miles down I-24 to Middle Tennessee State University for a doubleheader.

The two schools have met 45 times on the softball diamond since 1993, but the Lady Govs (10-11) haven’t squared off against the Blue Raiders (2-27) since splitting a home twinbill four years ago.

The games will also mark the Lady Govs’ last non-Ohio Valley Conference contests on the 2013 schedule.

Austin Peay enters the matchup led offensively by a pair of .400-plus hitters in junior shortstop Kayla Davidson and sophomore second baseman Laurel Burroughs. Davidson is hitting .407, with seven doubles and three home runs while Burroughs is just a point back at .406, with seven doubles, three triples and two home runs.

Middle Tennessee is led by Samantha Nieves, who is hitting .312, with seven doubles and three home runs. She is the only Blue Raider hitting better than .300 so far in 2013.

In the circle, junior Lauren de Castro and senior Morgan Brewer come in with matching 5-5 win-loss marks for Austin Peay, with de Castro owning a 3.01 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 67.1 innings. Meanwhile, Brewer owns a 5.67 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 54.1 innings.

Jordyn Fisherback tops the Middle Tennessee pitching staff with a 2-13 win-loss mark, which includes a 5.31 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 85.2 innings.
