Visual art and creative writing collide at new Austin Peay State University exhibit at Framemaker Gallery

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Telling stories about our environment, whether derived from myth or direct observation, is part of the human condition. During the month of April, the Framemaker Gallery at 705 North Second Street will explore the ancient tradition with “Stories About Place + Self” — a selection of broadsides printed by visual art and creative writing students from Austin Peay State University.

The exhibition’s compelling textual posters were printed at the APSU Goldsmith Press & Rare Type Collection in response to an interdisciplinary assignment developed by Dr. Amy Wright, associate professor of languages and literature, and Cynthia Marsh, professor of art.

Writer David Huddle, the 2013 Acuff Chair of Excellence for the Creative Arts, worked with the students to develop short narratives about personal landscapes.

The exhibition will open with a reception from 5:00pm to 8:00pm April 4th, during the First Thursday ArtWalk at the Framemaker Gallery. A reading by the artists will take place at 7:00pm at the reception.
