APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Track and Field
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team enjoyed the comforts of home in hosting Saturday’s APSU Invitational. The Lady Govs used their home-field advantage to turn in several top marks at Governors Stadium.
Adams, Jones and freshmen Kymmalett Ross and Anotonia Stevenson took second in the 4x100m relay with a 48.52 mark in the first outdoor relay event for the three freshmen.
Junior Xiamar Richards dropped down to middle distances to great success, Saturday. The Clarksville native won the 800m run in 2:19.84, and placed third in the 1500m run with a 4:45.50 mark.
Senior Chantelle Grey also competed in the 1500m event, earning runner-up marks with a 4:41.87 finish that left her less than half a second behind Bellarmine’s Angela Musk. Grey’s leg of the 4x400m relay brought the Lady Govs from nearly 100 meters behind to win the event with a 3:52.17 mark; she was joined by Jones, Ross and sophomore Taelor Slaughter in the relay.
Junior Natalie Olberding won the 400m hurdles with a personal-best 1:02.84 mark.
In the field, senior Nichole Bressner had a fantastic pole vault, hitting a personal-best 3.50m mark to win the event. Junior Molly Basch’s 3.05m mark earned her a share of second place.
Senior Lauren Lyles picked up another victory for the Lady Govs in the long jump, with her 5.40m mark her fourth-best outdoor mark of the last two seasons.
Senior transfer Jasmine Foster rounded out the day with three top-five finishes for the Lady Govs. She was runner-up in the shot put (12.06m), third in the hammer throw (personal-best 44.23m) and fourth in the discus (38.81m).
The Lady Govs take next weekend off before traveling to Knoxville for the Sea Ray Relays, April 12th-13th.
