Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for March 31st, 2013

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

  • Toddler Splash April 3rd
  • Church Youth League Coaches’ Meetings Scheduled
  • Civil War Photography Exhibit
  • Clarksville 50+ Olympics to kick off May 14th

Toddler Splash April 3rd

Indoor Aquatic Center - New ProvidenceLooking for something fun to do with your toddler or young child? Come to the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, the first Wednesday of every month for “Toddler Splash”. Kids ages 1 to 5-years-old can shake those winter blues away with April’s “Flowers and Bugs” theme by enjoying water games, springtime crafts, and a “fishing pond.”

The event is open to children ages 1-5 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Cost to attend is $3.00 per person, including adults. A parent or adult guardian must accompany toddlers in the water.

This event will allow youngsters to enjoy getting acquainted with the water or practicing previously learned water safety skills. Pre-registration is available at recpro.cityofclarksville.com and is encouraged.

Church Youth League Coaches’ Meetings Scheduled

SoftballThe Coaches’ meetings for the Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s Church Youth Softball League will be held Monday, April 15th in the game room of the Burt-Cobb Community Center located at 1011 Franklin Street. The meeting will take place at 6:00pm.

Civil War Photography Exhibit

Fort Defiance Civil War Park & Interpretive CenterThe Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, will host a photography exhibit Saturday, April 27th from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

The exhibit will include a collection of photographs dating between the 1840’s and 1860’s, with an emphasis on photography during the American Civil War.

Visitors will also be able to observe how a mobile photography studio would have looked and operated during that time period and purchase their very own image preserved on steel or glass.

In addition, visitors can also tour the permanent exhibit which includes the 18-minute film, “Crossroads of Change 1861-1865”.

Clarksville 50+ Olympics to kick off May 14th

2013 Clarksville 50+ OlympicsAdults at least 50-years-old can register now until May 3rd for the 2013 Clarksville 50-Plus Olympics. This year’s events will be held May 14th-18th at various locations around Clarksville, including The Pinnacle Bowling Center, The Swan Lake Sports Complex and Swan Lake Golf Course, The Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence and the Kleeman Community Center.

Competitors will face off for bragging rights, as well as medals in more than 20 challenging events, which include shuffleboard, tennis, track, golf, bowling, basketball free throw, pickle ball and indoor swimming events.

Participants who register on or before April 29th qualify for the Early Bird Rate of $20.00. Cost to register April 30th through May 3rd is $25.00. Certain events such as golf or bowling may have an additional fee. Registration fee includes complimentary 50 Plus Olympics t-shirt and dinner ticket.
