APSU Lady Govs Softball plays Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky at home this weekend

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – After not playing at home since March 17th, Austin Peay State University’s softball team will return to Cheryl Holt Field this weekend for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference doubleheaders.

The Lady Govs (10-16, 1-7 OVC) will open things up with a pair of games, noon, Saturday versus Morehead State and conclude the weekend on noon, Sunday with two contests versus Eastern Kentucky.

Coming into the weekend, Austin Peay is led at the plate by Lauren de Castro’s .370 batting average, which includes six doubles, four triples and two home runs. She’s also driven in 14.

Kayla Davidson and Laurel Burroughs are also hitting better than .300, with Davidson coming in at .356 with seven doubles, four home runs and 18 RBI while Burroughs is hitting .329 with seven doubles, three triples and three home runs. She’s driven in 15.

In the circle, de Castro and Morgan Brewer top the Lady Govs pitching staff with 5-7 win-loss records, with de Castro owning a 3.32 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 82.1 inning, while Brewer has a 4.97 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 67.2 innings of work.

Austin Peay’s pitching staff will be challenged, Saturday, as Morehead State (13-11, 1-5 OVC) boasts five players hitting better than .300, led by Elizabeth Wagner’s white-hot .471 batting average.

Katie Pfost tops the Eagles pitchers with a 7-6 win-loss mark and a 2.94 ERA, with 83 strikeouts in 83.1 innings.

Sunday’s opponent, Eastern Kentucky (19-14, 6-4 OVC), will play at Murray State, Saturday, and is led offensively by Sarah Fobbs (.347, 4 doubles, 4 home runs) and in the circle by Leanna Pittsenbarger, who has a 12-7 record with a 1.95 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 114.2 innings.
