Austin Peay State University Lady Govs Tennis losses to Jacksonville State Gamecocks Sunday

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team closed out the 2013 regular season against Jacksonville State, Sunday, suffering a 7-0 loss to the Gamecocks at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.

Austin Peay concludes the regular season with a 9-12 overall mark and finished 5-5 in the OVC, earning a .500 or better record in conference play for the fourth consecutive season. The Lady Govs earned the fifth seed in next week’s OVC Tournament, where they will face Eastern Illinois. Jacksonville State (14-10, 8-2) claims the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the conference tournament.

No Lady Gov was able to force a third set against Jacksonville State. Sophomores Ornella Di Salvo and Vanessa Tavares fell 7-5 in their first set but were quickly dispatched in the second set; Di Salvo fell 7-5, 6-2 to Raphaela Lima at No. 2 singles, while Tavares lost 7-5, 6-1, to Zoe Bizinos at No. 4.

The Lady Govs face Eastern Illinois in the No. 4 vs. No. 5 matchup in the first round of the 2013 OVC Tournament Championship, 10:00am, Friday.
