Austin Peay State University Lady Govs Softball takes on Belmont Bruins, Tennessee State Tigers this weekend

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will play its last two Ohio Valley Conference Eastern Division opponents this weekend as it travels to Nashville to square off against Belmont and Tennessee State.

The Lady Govs (13-22, 4-13 OVC) start the weekend with a noon, Saturday doubleheader versus Belmont, while concluding their Nashville swing with a 1:00pm, Sunday twinbill at Tennessee State.

Austin Peay’s offense is led by junior Lauren de Castro, who enters the weekend with a .389 batting average for the season. However, she especially has been hot of over the last three weeks, hitting at a scorching .460 clip over the last 16 games, including four home runs in her last five games.

Also hitting more than .300 for the Lady Govs this season is junior Kayla Davidson (.344) and sophomore Laurel Burroughs (.313).

In the circle, de Castro tops the Austin Peay pitching staff with a 7-10 win-loss record, including a 3.75 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 114 innings of work. Senior Morgan Brewer is next on the staff with a 5-9 record and 36 strikeouts in 85 innings pitched.

Belmont (13-26, 3-13 OVC) offense will be centered around Kat Hollingsworth and her .366 batting average, while Kirbie Ferrell is the only other Bruin hitting more than .300, coming in at .340. Carolyn Snodgress tops Belmont’s pitching staff with a 4-7 record and a 3.14 ERA.

Sunday’s opponent, Tennessee State (11-30, 2-13 OVC) is led offensively by Jennifer Givens and Kiarra Freeman, who enter the weekend with .359 and .339 batting averages, respectively. Shea Morris leads TSU pitchers with a 7-16 record and a 3.71 ERA.
