Land Between the Lakes to hold 7th Annual Quilt Show April 27th-28th

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Join us for the 7th Annual Quilt Show, April 27th-28th from 10:00am-4:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am-3:00pm on Sunday at The Homeplace in Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area.

Program is included with the purchase of general admission to The Homeplace; $5.00 ages 13 & up, $3.00 ages 5-12, and free ages 4 & under. Visit www.lbl.org or call 270.924.2020 for additional information.

This year’s theme brings the outdoors inside with Flowers on the Bed. “Quilts were one of the few areas of self-expression for 19th century women; they stitched their views of the world into every quilt they made,” said LBL Special Events Coordinator, Cindy Earls. “In the early Victorian era, quilting and flowers, both wild and domestic, were popular. Quilt patterns were created to look like favorite flowers; it was a way to bring the natural world indoors and to put brightly flowered quilts on the bed.”

Throughout the weekend, enjoy a display of 19th and 20th century flower patterned quilts from a simple patchwork quilt to an intricate applique quilt.

Programs include

  • Sat & Sun, 1:00pm – Quilt Turning: Preservation and Stories
  • Sat, 1:00pm-3:00pm – Green Woodworking
  • Sat & Sun, 2:00pm – Thimbles and Threads: Materials and Tools of 19th Century Quilting
  • Sun, 2:00pm-4:00pm – Team Sawing
  • Sat & Sun, 2:30pm – How to Make a Proper Bed

“The 1800s were a very important time for quilting, we encourage everyone to come to the Quilt Show to learn more about a mid-19th century farm family,” said Jessye Bostick, Homeplace Quilt Show Coordinator. “This is a great opportunity to see how quilting patterns, fabrics, and uses have changed over the years.”
