Child Abuse Prevention Poster Contest Winners Announced

Entries on display at several Middle Tennessee locations through April 30th

Catholic Charities of TennesseeNashville, TN– Nine Middle Tennessee students, grades K-8, attending schools in Clarksville, Gallatin, and Nashville have been honored for their winning entries in the 2013 Child Abuse Prevention Poster Contest sponsored by Catholic Charities of Tennessee.

The more than 150 entries received illustrated the theme, “The best family memories are made of…”

“The poster contest provides teachers and parents with an opportunity to discuss various issues related to child abuse prevention with their children,” said Marie Gilland, Catholic Charities’ program coordinator for Child Welfare Services.  More than 3.5 million children are reported as victims of abuse or neglect in the U.S. every year, she added, including an estimated 170,000 in Tennessee.

“Community awareness is essential to ending the cycle of violence toward children. This contest serves as a reminder that everyone has a role to play in keeping children safe, supported and loved.”

The 2013 poster contest winners are:

Kindergarten – 2nd Grade

1st place – Andrew Wallace, Kindergarten, St. John Vianney Catholic School, Gallatin
2nd place – Oliver Rausch, Kindergarten, St. John Vianney Catholic School, Gallatin
3rd place – Katie Shea Collins, 1st grade, St. John Vianney Catholic School, Gallatin

3rd Grade – 5th Grade

1st place – Avery LePore, 3rd grade, St. Ann School, Nashville
2nd place – Dawnbe Yu, 3rd grade, St. Ann School, Nashville
3rd place – Rachel Ann Krantz, 3rd grade, Immaculate Conception School, Clarksville

6th Grade – 8th Grade

1st place – Patrick Johnson, 6th grade, Immaculate Conception School, Clarksville
2nd place – Ashlyn Roberts, 6th grade, St. John Vianney Catholic School, Gallatin
3rd place – Bill Rowe, 8th grade, Immaculate Conception Catholic School, Clarksville

The winning student posters are on display until April 30th at Coleman Park Community Center (384 Thompson Lane), East Nashville Community Center (601 Russell Street), Hadley Community Center (1037 28th Avenue North), Bordeaux Library (4000 Clarksville Pike), and several locations in Shelbyville.
