Nashville Sounds get only three hits in 6-2 loss to Oklahoma City RedHawks

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK – The Nashville Sounds were held to only three hits by Oklahoma City pitchers Wednesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, while RedHawks batters put up six runs on 13 hits to win 6-2 and hand Nashville its seventh consecutive road loss. The loss gives Oklahoma City the series victory with still one game remaining.

Three RedHawks pitchers combined for the three-hitter, led by starter Wes Musick (2-0), who turned in six strong innings en route to his second win of the season. The southpaw fired four strikeouts and held Nashville to one run on two hits. Relievers Eric Berger and Jason Stoffel finished out the final three innings for the ‘Hawks.

The majority of the action took place in the bottom of the third inning, when RedHawks batters touched Sounds starting pitcher Tyler Thornburg (0-3) for six hits, scoring four runs on four doubles. Andrew Simunic led-off with a single and scored on Che-Hsuan Lin’s double down the left-field line. Catcher Carlos Perez followed with an RBI-double of his own in the next at-bat, which was his first hit at the Triple-A level.

Jake Elmore and Brett Wallace produced the other two doubles of the inning to give Oklahoma City the 4-0 lead. Thornburg was charged with the loss, his third, exiting the game after four innings of work, allowing four runs on eight hits. He struck out four and walked two.

Nashville Sounds - Stephen ParkerNashville got on the board in the fourth inning on Stephen Parker’s one-out home run to right field. The jack was Parker’s third of the year and ended Musick’s scoreless streak at 14 innings.

The RedHawks pulled to a five-run advantage in the fifth inning with a pair of two-out runs against Sounds reliever Travis Webb. Third baseman Jimmy Paredes started with a liner off Parker’s glove for a single and was driven home by Wallace’s single after stealing second. Jonathan Villar made it 6-1 with the team’s fifth two-bagger.

The five RedHawks doubles, all to left field, gave the rehabbing Jeff Bianchi plenty of work, who was making the first outfield start of his 597-game professional career. A stiff wind from left to right aided a couple of the extra-base knocks, landing just fair before rolling to the corner. At the plate, the 26-year-old went 0-for-3.

Nashville Sounds - Caleb GindlAfter the homer by Parker, the Sounds sent 15 batters to the plate before reaching base again on a walk to Bianchi in the ninth. First baseman Sean Halton followed with a double to get the Sounds one additional run.

The Sounds only other hit came from Caleb Gindl, who found a single in the third inning. The Sounds outfielder has recorded a hit in nine of his last 10 games, hitting .375 (12-for-32) in that stretch.

Also seeing action out of the Sounds bullpen was Kyle Heckathorn, who pitched two scoreless innings, facing the minimum.

The Nashville Sounds look to avoid the four-game sweep on Thursday night and will send lefty Zach Kroenke (0-3, 6.46) against a ‘Hawks pitcher to be announced. Baseball will return to Greer Stadium on Tuesday, May 7th, as the Sounds host the Fresno Grizzlies (AAA-Giants).
