APSU Lady Govs Golf Sign Two more signees for 2013-14

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team has added a second pair of freshmen to its roster for the 2013-14 season.

Kelsey Schutt, a four-year state performer at Jackson High School (Jackson Township, Ohio), and Amber Bosworth, a three-year performer at Carroll Senior High School (Southlake, Texas), will join a suddenly young Lady Govs golf team.

Last fall, APSU signed Morgan Gardner, of Orlando, FL, and Morgan Kauffman, of Chattanooga, to letters of intent for the 2013-14 season, meaning four freshmen now will be vying for a position in next season’s lineup. Three seniors, Tabitha Beard, Holly Batey and Lauren Bond, recently completed their APSU careers.

The freshmen will join a team with rising seniors Tala Mumford and Rachel Deaton, junior Meghan Mueller and sophomore Jessica Cathey.

Both Schutt and Bosworth are multiple sport prep athletes who now will concentrate solely on golf at the college level. Schutt is a pitcher and outfielder in softball while Bosworth played volleyball and basketball.

Schutt played on a Jackson High School golf team that finished second twice, third once and sixth a fourth time in the Ohio Division 1 state tournament. She was named all Federal League and all-Stark County three times while being chosen all-Northeast Ohio one season.

Bosworth performed on a Carroll team that won both district and regional titles in 2013. She owns an 80.1 scoring average, with a low of 75. Long off the tee, she averages more than 220 yards off the tee.

“I am incredibly excited to have Amber and Kelsey join our program,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “These girls have been multi-sport athletes and love to compete. They are ready to use their athleticism, competitiveness and golf skills to help us win an OVC Championship.

“Losing three seniors is always hard. With their addition to our program we will have four freshmen. It will be important for them to draw on the experience of their teammates as well as use their junior golf experience to jump in and be competitive right away.”
