Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – The 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship field is now set. The event will be held May 22nd-26th at The Ballpark at Jackson (formerly Pringles Park) in Jackson, Tennessee.

This year marks the fourth year in a row the event will be held at the venue, which is home of the Jackson Generals, the AA-affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

The Austin Peay Governors won 12 consecutive games to earn a second place finish in the OVC Regular Season Standings and a first round bye in the OVC Tournament.
The Austin Peay Governors won 12 consecutive games to earn a second place finish in the OVC Regular Season Standings and a first round bye in the OVC Tournament.

Tennessee Tech (39-15 overall), picked sixth in the OVC preseason poll, finished the OVC season 24-6 to claim the regular season championship. The 24 Conference wins were the most in OVC history.

Including a pair of divisional championships in 1970 and 1988, it is the eighth OVC title for the Golden Eagles. The team has also won the outright title in 1949, 1955, 1956, 1997 and 2010. The team’s 39 overall victories on the season are tied for the most in TTU history.

The team enters the postseason having won 18 of its last 24 games. Tech will be the No. 1 seed for the OVC Tournament and open play on Thursday night at 7:00pm after receiving a first round bye. Overall it is the 15th tournament appearance for the program and first since 2011.

Austin Peay, who last week became the first OVC team to appear in a national poll since 2009 when they entered the NCBWA rankings at No. 30, finished the season by winning 16 of its final 17 games to improve to 42-13 overall and 22-7 in the OVC.

That earned the Governors the No. 2 overall seed for the tournament, after the squad had won the last two regular season titles (2011 and 2012). APSU, the two-time defending tournament champions as well, will open play on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. after receiving a first round bye.

In its first year in the OVC Belmont (37-18, 22-8) captured the No. 3 seed for the OVC Tournament. The Bruins capped the regular season with a win over OVC Champion Tennessee Tech on Saturday to finish in a tie with Jacksonville State in the standings; Belmont won the head-to-head tiebreaker with JSU after winning two of three from the Gamecocks during the season. Belmont will open play against No. 6 seed Southeast Missouri on Wednesday at 7:00pm.

Jacksonville State (32-24, 22-8 OVC) qualified for its 10th-straight OVC Tournament this season. The Gamecocks closed out the regular season by taking two of three games from Morehead State over the weekend. The Gamecocks will open play against No. 5 seed Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday at 3:00pm.

Eastern Kentucky (20-32, 16-13 OVC) entered the week having already locked up the No. 5 seed and capped the regular season by winning two of three games at Murray State. After being OVC Co-Regular Season Champions last year, the team is back in the event in 2013, marking its OVC-record 29th tournament appearance. The Colonels will open play at this year’s event on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. against No. 4 seed Jacksonville State.

Southeast Missouri (24-31, 13-17 OVC), under the direction of first-year head coach Steve Bieser, made the OVC Tournament field for the 19th consecutive season, extending its Conference record in that category. Southeast will play No. 4 seed Jacksonville State on Wednesday night at 7:00pm.

Fans can watch the entire 2013 OVC Baseball Tournament live on the OVC Digital Network. There is no charge to watch the event and the games are available on any computer, tablet or smart phone.
