Austin Peay State University Baseball’s Tyler Rogers selected in 10th round of Major League Baseball Draft

Seacaucus, NJ – Senior closer Tyler Rogers became the first Austin Peay State University baseball player selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft when he was selected in Friday’s 10th round (312th overall pick) by the San Francisco Giants.

Rogers, of Littleton, CO, concluded his Austin Peay career as both the single-season and career saves record holder, not only for Austin Peay but for the Ohio Valley Conference. He posted a NCAA Division I record-tying 23 saves in 2013 and concluded his career with 35 saves.

In 2013, Rogers posted a 7-2 record and 23 saves with a 1.63 ERA. He had a hand in 30 of the Govs school-record 47 victories. Rogers was one of five finalists for the National Collegiate Baseball Writer Association’s Closer of the Year award.

Rogers becomes the 14th Austin Peay player drafted in the MLB First-Year Player Draft since 2003. Three of those draftees – A.J. Ellis (Los Angeles Dodgers), Shawn Kelley (New York Yankees) and Matt Reynolds (Arizona) – are currently playing in the major leagues and another four are currently in the minors.
