APSU Lady Govs Basketball named to WBCA Team Academic Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUAtlanta, GA – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team was recognized for excellence in the classroom, Thursday, ranking 18th among Division I program in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls.

The Lady Govs finished the 2012-13 academic year with a 3.437 team grade-point average, one of 20 Division I teams to post better than a 3.40 GPA. It is the first time Austin Peay has been ranked on the Academic Top 25 Team Honor roll since the award started in 1995-96.

Utah Valley led all Division I teams with a 3.639 GPA. Southeast Missouri was the only other Ohio Valley Conference squad to enter the Top 25, ranking fifth with a 3.546 GPA.

“We have always stressed the need to excel in the classroom,” said Lady Govs head coach Carrie Daniels. “First and foremost, I want to thank Sonya Bain and Michelle Noland in our Academic Services office for their hard work to make sure our student-athletes continue their high achievement in the classroom.

“I also want to congratulate the ladies on this team for all the time and effort they have spent. This award demonstrates their commitment balancing schoolwork and what we require of them on the court.”

The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes women’s basketball teams across the nation in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA, and junior/community colleges that carry the highest combined grade point averages (GPAs) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.

The 2012-13 season is the 18th in which the WBCA has produced the honor rolls.
