Chattanooga, TN – Clarksville’s Graham Sleigh finished in a tie for 18th place at the 98th Tennessee State Amateur August 9th, despite only one birdie in the final round at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club.
Hendersonville’s Steven Fox -10 (68-67-68-67=270) won the tournament, beating runner-ups Keith Mitchell (Chattanooga) and Jim Jackson (Germantown, TN) by five strokes.
Sleigh (72-68-71-73=284) entered the final round at one-over, but had bogeys on the first and fourth holes to drop to three over.He would par out the rest of the way on the front nine, but a bogey on 11th hole dropped him to three-over on the round and a tournament worst four over par.
Sleigh would record his lone birdie on the 16th hole, to get back to three-over for the tournament, but a bogey on the 18th hole capped his tournament at four over and in a four-way tie for 18th place.
Overall, Sleigh recorded 14 birdies, 43 pars, 12 bogeys and two double bogeys over his 72 holes of play. He also finished the tournament one-over par on the par-3 holes, three-over on par four holes and even on par five holes over the four rounds of play.
Austin Peay State University golfers Trey Tarpley +6 (73-71-68-74=286/tie 25th) and Austin Kramer +11 (75-71-72-73=291/tie 46th) also made it past the top 65 final cut line.
