APSU Lady Govs Soccer set to close out preseason with pair of home matches

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team is scheduled to play two home exhibition matches to close out its preseason schedule.

Despite getting on the board first in their exhibition opener against the University of Alabama, Austin Peay gave up four straight goals in a 4-1 loss, August 11st, in Decatur, AL.

Gina Fabbro, who joined the Lady Govs in the spring and is expected to challenge for the starting forward spot left vacant by Emily Perkins’ graduation, scored the lone Lady Govs goal against the Crimson Tide.

One aspect the Lady Govs will be focused on this weekend will have to be set pieces. Several Crimson Tide goals came via set pieces in the exhibition, with head coach Kelley Guth’s squad determined to rectify those miscues in the future.

It will be the second year in a row the Lady Govs have faced Evansville in a preseason affair.

Austin Peay lost a 2-1 decision to the Purple Aces prior to last season as sophomore Nikki Filippone made two saves and senior Andy Quiceno accounted for Austin Peay’s lone goal.

The Lady Govs last faced Freed-Hardeman in 2011, defeating the Lions 5-0.

Quiceno and fellow seniors Morgan Zigelsky and Tatiana Ariza each found the back of the net in the victory.

Following the match against Freed-Hardeman, Austin Peay will head out for a team retreat before opening the regular season with a 6:00pm, Friday, August 23rd match at Southern Conference foe Chattanooga.
