Clarksville High School Soccer has big first half in win over West Creek High School in District 10-AAA Opener

Clarksville High SchoolClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School’s girls soccer team used an unrelenting offensive attack in the first half, Tuesday, August 27th at Hilda J. Richardson Field, to build a 4-0 cushion on its way to a 6-0 victory over West Creek High School – in a District 10-AAA opener for both teams.

The Lady Wildcats (2-1-0; 1-0-0 District 10-AAA) seemed to have the ball on the West Creek side of midfield for most of the opening half in getting off 15 shots, including five on goal, while scoring four times in the first 40 minutes of play.

“We’re fortunate to have several gifted offensive players,” Clarksville high coach Jeff Jordan said. “We tried some different things in the first half having to adjust to losing two players to injuries last week and it was a learning process out there, but I thought we got better as the game went on.”

Clarksville High got on the board just six minutes into the match against West Creek (2-1-0; 0-1-0 District 10-AAA) with freshman Alexis Hayes taking a pass from junior Ella Baggett and beating Coyotes keeper Tia Childs for the score.

The Lady Wildcats made it 2-0 nine minutes later, when sophomore Salera Jordan scored off an assist from freshman Gybson Roth.

Down two, West Creek still put up a good battle against the CHS onslaught for another 15 minutes, but two goals less than a minute apart in the 34th and 35th minutes for an intensive proposes put the game away.

The first of the two quick goals was scored by senior Amber Colvin – with an assist to Baggett – while the second was scored by Baggett off an assist by junior Ali Gries.

“I thought we played pretty well the first 20-25 minutes and hung in there with them,” West Creek coach James Moore said. “Two bad calls on their first two goals were off sides, bit the other two goals in the first half were legitimate goals.

“The first 20-25 minutes we played pretty much toe-to-toe with them, but the last 15 minutes we were just exhausted and they out gassed us.”

The second half, Clarksville High was a little bit more methodical in its attack, scoring twice after intermission.

The first of the two goals came in the 58th minute, with Colvin scoring her scored goal of the night – assist by Baggett – while Roth closed out the night’s scoring with an unassisted goal in the 67th minute for the 6-0 final.

Melia Correa and Clare Grady combined in goal for the shutout – with Correa recording a save, while Childs had seven saves in goal for West Creek.

Overall, Clarksville High outshot West Creek 28-5 and 12-1 in shots on goal, while holding a slim 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Clarksville High will return to action September 3rd when they travel across town to face Northwest High School, while West Creek hosts Dickson County August 29th.
