APSU Women’s Cross Country travels to Memphis for Brooks Memphis Twilight Invitational

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – A veteran top-three returns for the Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team when it kicks off the 2013 campaign with an 8:40pm (CT) run at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Invitational, hosted by Christian Brothers at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Collierville, TN.

Seniors Xiamar Richards, Chantelle Grey and Kendra Kirksey return at the top for the Lady Govs. Richards earned her second consecutive all-conference honor at last year’s Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships, while Grey returns for a final year of cross country after exhausting her track and field eligibility during the spring.

Kirksey, the Lady Govs school-record holder in the 3000m steeplechase, will put her skills to work on the cross country track as well.

“I think we’ll close that gap with the top three,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “Our newcomers will push the upperclassmen, which will make everyone better.”

A pair of transfers – Kim Dominguez (Western Kentucky) and Jessica Gray (Bethel) – join the squad in 2013; Gray was a four-time NAIA All-American for Bethel, while Dominguez posted a personal-best 10K (39:56.53) at the 2012 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships.

The Lady Govs travel to Chattanooga next week for the PowerAde Invite, hosted by Chattanooga at Moccasin Bend.
