Clarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.
This weeks highlights include: I Love My Farmers Market Celebration, Money Management Fair, Sevier Days, L.E.A.P. Mentorship Program, Cumberland Arts Experience, and Dream Chasers.
I Love My Farmers Market Celebration coming to an end
Are you a huge fan of the Clarksville Downtown Market? If so, be sure to visit www.lovemyfarmersmarket.org to pledge your support. Participants pledge dollars they intend to spend at their farmers markets. One pledge = A commitment to spend $10.00 at your farmers market that week.
The Top 100 most celebrated markets will receive a special logo honoring their achievement, “No Farms, No Food”® gear, and recognition on the Celebration’s website. Help us to win! Pledging ends September 9th, 2013.
2nd Annual Money Management Fair
The Kleeman Community Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, will be hosting the 2nd Annual Money Management Fair on September 28th from noon to 4:00pm.
Families can enjoy inflatables, food and prizes at this financial literacy event! The Money Management Fair will promote financial literacy in the community starting at a young age. This fair is open to families, primarily with young children, as fun and games will be used to teach the importance of saving money and how to do so. This event will feature Maria Jimenez, author of “Accounting for Preschoolers.”
Sevier Days
The Fort Defiance Civil War Park is excited to present “Sevier Days,” an 18th century, pre-Civil War event, September 28th from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Attractions are free and include: flintlock musket firing demonstrations, flint knapper making Indian arrowheads, and authentic blacksmith operation and frontier camp life.
L.E.A.P. Mentorship Program
Youth can enjoy basketball tournaments, step competitions, field trips, career development and community outreach opportunities in this mentorship program, held Tuesdays from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the Kleeman Center.
Personal mentors will interact with youth weekly and monthly with parents and youth. This mentorship program is open to ages 11-18 and is FREE with Center ID.
Cumberland Arts Experience
The Kleeman Community Center is excited to offer the next Cumberland Arts Experience, beginning Saturday, September 28th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This program will teach basic painting skills as participants paint along with an instructor to create a piece of art they can take home with them.
Classes are held monthly from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and feature a different painting, all inspired by things and places in the Cumberland region. Cost is $35.00 per class and includes paint & canvas.
The Cumberland Arts Experience is much more than a painting class, but an entire night of fun as participants will be treated to light music, “mocktails” and food tastings from local chef Kristina Waters.
Dream Chasers is Back!
Last year’s Dream Chasers program is back, but this year the program has an additional location! Youth ages 13 to 17 can be a part of this small-group mentorship program each week on Wednesdays at the Burt-Cobb Community Center at 4:30pm and Thursdays at the Crow Community Center at 3:00pm.
Teens will have the opportunity to listen to guest speakers, mentors and other teens discuss the issues they face on a day-to-day basis. Teens can also enjoy recreational activities, workshops and summits to help build their futures. FREE pizza and drinks will be provided to participants courtesy of Domino’s Pizza.
