APSU Lady Govs Cross Country heads to Huntsville for Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s cross-country team exits the state of Tennessee for the first time in 2013 when it travels to Huntsville, AL, for the Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial, hosted by Alabama-Huntsville.

The five-kilometer event will be held at Sharon Johnston Park, tentatively scheduled to begin at 9:45am (CT).

Xiamar Richards leads the squad into this weekend with two top-20 finishes in two events, including a runner-up finish at last weekend’s Powerade Invitational where she broke Austin Peay’s two-mile record with a time of 11:23.78.

Freshman Molly Jordan broke Richards’ old freshman record by five seconds, and was one of five finishers whose marks put them in the top-10 in Austin Peay two-mile history.

Xiamar RichardsAustin Peay last competed at the Earl Jacoby Memorial in 2011, where Richards won the event with a 19:11 mark, more than 30 seconds ahead of her closest competition. She became the first Lady Gov to win an individual race since Bertha Castillo in 2008. Chantelle Grey (17th) and Kendra Kirksey (21st) helped Richards pace the Lady Govs to a third-place team finish.

Austin Peay and Evansville will be the only Division I teams in attendance in Huntsville, but will be pushed by lower-tier powers such as Morehouse (eighth in the DII South Region), Christian Brothers (ninth in the South Region) and host UAH (first in the South Region).

“Evansville and Huntsville each have a girl that will push CiCi,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “It should be an interesting race up front. There’s several good individuals on the women’s side, so it’ll give her a barometer for where she’s at.”

The Lady Govs take a break from their three-week season-opening jaunt to rest and recover before traveling to the Greater Louisville Classic, October 5th, at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, KY.
