Clarksville Parks and Recreation Report for September 15th, 2013

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include: Sleep Under the Stars, Indoor Aquatic Center Opens, Bark in the Park and Fright on Franklin.

Sleep Under the Stars

Sleep under the StarsJoin us for a bonfire, games and much more at our Family Campout, Saturday, September 28th, at 2:00pm to Sunday, September 29th, at 9:00am at Billy Dunlop Park. Cost is $5.00 per person or $20.00 for a family up to 6 members. This family adventure will include an afternoon and evening full of festivities to include a hot dog dinner and breakfast the next morning.

Families will need to provide their own tent and sleeping materials. Children must be accompanied by an adult the entire camp out. Don’t miss out, register today at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

Billy Dunlop Park will be closed to the public for this event.

Indoor Aquatic Center Opens October 1st

Indoor Aquatic Center - New ProvidenceThe Indoor Aquatic Center (IAC) will open its doors for the indoor season on October 1st! Don’t miss the FREE admission on opening day!

The Indoor Aquatic Center is open Monday through Thursday from 6:30am-12:00pm and 3:00pm-8:00pm. Friday hours are 6:30am-12:00pm and 3:00pm-6:00pm. Saturday the IAC is open from noon-6:00pm and Sunday from 1:00pm-6:00pm.

Pool passes are available year-round and can be purchased at our Main Office located at 102 Public Square or at the IAC. Daily Admission is $3.00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Tuesdays you can get into the pool for just $1.00 and Thursdays are buy-one-get-one-free admission days. Weekend admission is $5.00. Wibit and Climbing Wall use is $2.00 everyday, excluding Wednesdays when these fun features are free to pool-goers!

Bark in the Park

2013 Bark in the Park Bring your 4-legged family members for a day of contest, demonstrations, prizes and more at Bark in the Park, October 5th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at King’s Run Bark Park located at Liberty Park.

Businesses that promote dog-related programs, services and products are encouraged to apply by visiting the Parks and Recreation Office at 102 Public Square or visit www.cityofclarksville.com/barkinthepark to download a form.

Applications must be received by Monday, September 30th.

Fright on Franklin

2013 Fright on FranklinThe 5th Annual Fright on Franklin, presented by The City of Clarksville and Altra Federal Credit Union, will take place, Saturday, October 26th, beginning at 3:00pm in Downtown Clarksville. This free, family friendly and award winning event is for adults and kids of all ages and will feature safe trick-or-treating, a hayride, costume contests, and more!

Once again, pre-registration for the costume contest is required. There will be no registration the day of the event. Contest participants can register beginning September 15th, 2013 thru October 25th, 2013 at the Parks and Recreation office or online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. The contest is free to enter and open to ages 0 to 12. Prizes will be awarded.

Register early; there are a limited number of spots per category. All costumes should be in good taste and appropriate for a family event.

New this year to the costume contest is two additional categories for all ages to compete in – “Group” and “You Made That?” All costumes must be homemade to compete in the “You Made That?” category.
