Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – This week has been Child Passenger Safety Week. The Clarksville Police Department (CPD) has Officers who have been trained to properly install Child Safety Seats.

The CPD wants to make the public aware that each Wednesday, by appointment only; these trained Officers will check or install child safety seats.

On Saturday, September 21st, 2013, from 10:00am to 2:00pm, there are two simultaneous events in two different locations. There will be two CPD trained child safety seat installers at Once Upon a Child, at 2728 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard and two other CPD trained child safety seat installers at Fort Campbell, in the Main PX Parking Lot. The CPD installers will be assisting other agencies in checking and installing child safety seats.

Statistically, “96 percent of parents and caregivers believe their child safety seats are installed correctly, but research shows that seven out of 10 children are improperly restrained.” Also, “Child safety seats can reduce fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers, ages 1-4 (http://www.seatcheck.org/news_fact_sheets_statistics.html).”
