APSU Governors Golf heads to Kentucky for Cardinal Intercollegiate

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUSimpsonville, KY – After finishing an impressive third in the Columbia Regional Preview, Austin Peay State University men’s golf will feature the same lineup for its second fall tournament when it travels to The Cardinal Club to participate in the Cardinal Intercollegiate.

Hosted by Louisville, the annual tournament will feature 15 teams, including the Govs’ Ohio Valley Conference foes Murray State, UT Martin and Eastern Kentucky. In addition, Western Carolina, Mercer, Cincinnati, Francis Marion, Furman, McNeese State, Western Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Wright State also will compete.

The Govs will be paired with Dayton and Wright State, Monday. Interestingly the three Kentucky directional schools also will play together on the first day.

The 54-hole event will begin with 36 holes, Monday, The Cardinal Club, located approximately 30 minutes east of the Louisville campus, features a par-72 7,036-yard, Spencer Holt layout and owns a 135 slope rating.

After taking third to open the fall season in the fall-opening event, the Governors will feature the same experienced-dominated lineup. Anthony Bradley, who finished tied for ninth (1-under 215) in Mizzou’s tourney and was OVC Co-Golfer of the Week, will be one three seniors to participate as will Marco Iten, who was one shot back in the opener, and Trey Tarpley, who shot 222.

The other two team members will be sophomores Chris Baker, who tied for 19th at 218 and Austin Kramer, who tied for 28th at 223. Freshman Oliver Dickson will play in his first college tournament as an individual.

“We are looking forward to another great event at the University Louisville,” APSU  coach Kirk Kayden said. “The Cardinal Club is a great facility to host a college tournament. Our seniors have played the golf course numerous times and we are going to look to their leadership in our preparation.

“We need to build some momentum coming off a solid performance last week.”
