After scoring their third goal, the Lady Hawks fell prey to the Lady Coyotes continuing efforts to make up ground, but only relinquished one goal and earned the 3-1 victory.

“I think we played great in this game. Mental part was good, we were aggressive on the field. We moved the ball, took care of the ball,“ Rossview Lady Hawks head coach Daniel Paschedag said. “We had them chase us a lot and made great decisions until about the 65th minute when we went up 3-0. There came a little bit of a break in our game. We, of course, have to learn to finish these games strong no matter what the score is.”

The Lady Hawks made 12 shots on goal in the first half and out shot the Lady Coyotes 25-5 in the game. Lady Hawk Kayle Grimes made 2 goals. Her teammate Molly Barnes added a third on a penalty kick in the second half.
Savannah Young made the only goal for the Lady Coyotes.

“First half we didn’t do the things that we needed to. We didn’t do any of the things that we talked about pre-game, didn’t do any of the things we talked about for the past week preparing for Rossview,” Lady Coyotes head coach James Moore said. “I think both teams are pretty evenly matched. Second half, I believe was proof of that. Second half we made some adjustments, switched some personnel around and got the girls refocused on some things. First half we just could not establish possession at all.”

Lady Coyote goalkeeper and captain, Hale Claiborne had her hands full in the first half as the Lady Hawks controlled the ball and pressed making frequent attacks. Claiborne made 6 saves, withstanding the offensive barrage until the 35th minute of the first half.

Then, Grimes received a cross from her teammate in front of the net, but closely guarded by a Lady Coyote defender. She stopped the cross on the ground, back-kicked the ball past the defender, then spun around the defender herself and put the ball in the net.

Down only 1-0 in the beginning of the second half, the Lady Coyotes were fighting their way back into the game. One of coach Moore’s adjustments included putting Claiborne in the field and replacing her with Tia Childs as goalkeeper. In the 10th minute of the second half, Childs was overly aggressive diving for the ball outside the box and collided with a Lady Hawk player, giving them a penalty kick.

Barnes made the penalty pass Childs and increased the Lady Hawks lead, 2-0.

In the 65th minute of the game, Grimes chased down a long pass downfield and outran a Lady Coyote defender on her way to her second goal. Childs made 6 saves in the second half.

Down 3-0, the Lady Coyotes continued improving in the second half and took advantage of what appeared to be a slowing down Lady Hawks team.

In the 71st minute of the game, the Lady Coyotes got a free kick from the sideline which soared to the front of the net where Young leaped for a header into the net. It was the last goal of the game.

“I told them just keep there heads up. That’s only their second loss of the season. They lost to two really good teams,“ Moore said. “They have accomplished a whole lot of things this year. I told them you are still second place in the district right now. You have got that locked, but the bad thing is we do have to face Rossview again and they are hungry for it. They are excited about seeing them again.”

Coach Paschedag had his team looking to the future as well.

“It has to be our expectation to make it to a championship game. That was our goal before the season and that is what we want to accomplish,” Paschedag said.
