APSU Governors Tennis finds success at Grizzly Open

Austin Peay State University GovernorsLawrenceville, GA – Junior Iago Seffrin and freshman Manuel Montenegro represented Austin Peay at the Inaugural Grizzly Open, hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College.

Coming out of the top draw, Montenegro defeated Berry College’s Inigo Flores, 7-5, 7-6 in the first round and knocked off Point University’s Ben Markowski, 8-5, in round two. Georgia Gwinnett’s Bruno Tiberti finally upended Montenegro’s run with an 8-2 decision in the quarterfinals.

Seffrin advanced to the quarterfinals of the second draw, defeating Alabama State’s Dylan Cleary (8-0) and Georgia Southwestern’s Oliver Marshall (8-6) before falling to Matias Hatem of host Georgia Gwinnett (8-1).

Seffrin and Montenegro also got in a doubles match in Gwinnett, falling 8-5 to Romain Nowaczyk and Giuseppe Guarnieri of Palm Beach Atlantic in the opening round.

This match concludes fall play for the Govs. Austin Peay returns to the court Feb. 1st when they open indoor play against Chattanooga.
