APSU Lady Govs Golf struggles in final round of Blue Raider Invitational

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s struggles the Blue Raider Invitational continued Tuesday in the tourney’s final round at Old Fort.

The Lady Govs shot 323, Tuesday, to end with a 956 and a 15th-place finish in the Middle Tennessee event. Southern Illinois won the tournament with an 897. Fellow Ohio Valley Conference foes Morehead State (904) finished fourth, Jacksonville State (907) fifth, Murray State (916) eight, Tennessee Tech (917) ninth and Belmont (931) 12th.

“We just couldn’t get anything going today,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “Combine a long golf course with some rough conditions and our struggles hitting the ball, that is where we were.

“We just got on the bogey train and couldn’t get off. The big numbers just killed us.”

For the second time in three rounds, the Lady Govs were forced to count a pair of 80-plus scores. Sophomore Jessica Cathey tied for 25th overall with a final-round 78 to end at 229.

Rachel Deaton, after struggling in the first round, finished 78-79 to end at 241.

Freshman Morgan Kauffman fired a final-round 81, improving each round. Senior Tala Mumford, after a pair of sub-80 scores Monday, slipped to an 85 Tuesday, the same as freshman Amber Bosworth. Freshman Morgan Gardner fired an 83 Tuesday.
