It is the Lady Govs lone preseason outing before the 2013-14 season tips off, Saturday, November 9th. ![]() Austin Peay women’s basketball team will give fans a glimpse of the 2013-14 squad when it hosts Martin Methodist in a 2:00pm, Sunday contest. (Brittney Sparn/APSU Sports Information) Martin Methodist started its season one week ago and brings a 2-0 mark into Sunday’s affair. Austin Peay Lady GovsAustin Peay will be a young squad in 2013-14 with five sophomore and five freshman dominating the 13-woman roster. The three upperclassmen are senior guards Nicole Olszewski and Lauren Yarbrough and junior guard Kristen Stainback. Despite the youth, five returnees started a contest last season, including Olszewski (22 starts) and Alexis Hardaway (19). The Lady Govs’ seven returnees account for only 808 of team’s 1700 points scored (47.5 percent). Among returning players, Tiasha Gray is the team’s leader in scoring (8.1 ppg) and assists (2.7 apg) while Hardaway is the team leader in rebounding (4.9 rpg). Martin Methodist RedhawksMartin Methodist has opened its campaign with home wins against Crowley’s Ridge (77-44, October 28th) and Oakwood (51-35, October 31st). The Redhawks have dominated the glass in those two outings, averaging an astounding 63 rebounds per game. That rebounding effort includes 27 offensive rebounds per game. Freshman forward Kyoko Wade has a team-best 21 rebounds (10.5 per game) while freshman guard Janasia Williams leads the team with 11 offensive rebounds and has 18 total rebounds (9.0 per game). Wade and junior guard Kelsey Nowlin each have posted a team-leading 13.0 points per game. MMC is averaging 64 points per game as a team. APSU Head Coach Carrie DanielsCarrie Daniels is entering her eighth season as head coach at her alma mater. Daniels has become Austin Peay’s longest serving head coach, in terms of season’s coached. She has been on the bench for 216 games, and became the longest tenured coached in that category during the 2012-13 season.
