Austin Peay State University Choral activities hosting 4th Holiday Dinner on December 7th

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Every year, thousands of people stop by Austin Peay State University to attend athletic events, lectures and performances, and the atmosphere is usually relaxed, with visitors dressed casually as they stroll through campus.

But at 7:00pm on December 7th, the community is invited to come out and enjoy a more formal evening with the APSU choral program’s fourth annual Holiday Dinner.

“Of all the events on campus, this is the one that brings people together in formal attire for a sit-down dinner, lit by candlelight, with music provided by APSU students,” Dr. Korre Foster, director of choral activities at APSU, said. “It is a wonderful opportunity for us to change the Morgan University Center Ballroom into a holiday atmosphere, with both the sites and sounds of the season.”

While attendees enjoy coffee, spiced cider and an upscale meal, APSU choral members, accompanied by the APSU Jazz Collegians, will serenade them with a diverse array of holiday songs.

“A small theme of this year’s Holiday Dinner is the music of the 1950s,” Foster said. “They’re going to hear ‘Rudolph,’ ‘Santa Baby” and ‘I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.’”

The evening’s musical program will also feature holiday standards, such as “White Christmas,” two Spanish-language choral pieces, accompanied by both a guitar and a harp, and works in Hebrew, Latin and other languages.

“One of the annual crowd pleasers is the African-inspired choral selection,” Foster said “For this year, we’re doing a Nigerian folk song.”

The evening will end on a soft, subdued note when Dr. Eli Lara, APSU assistant professor of cello, joins the choir for a special performance.

Tickets for the dinner are $55.00, but only 300 spots are available.
