Chris Horton named Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Sophomore center Chris Horton, of Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Horton and the Govs went 2-2 during a rare four-game week, bookending losses to Central Michigan and Cal State Northridge with victories against Southern Illinois and Montana State.

Horton averaged 13 points and 9 rebounds in those contests, including a 15.3 point and 8.7 rebound clip in three games at the Central Michigan Tournament.

The shot-blocking savant swatted 15 shots away during last week’s contests, including a career-high tying seven against Southern Illinois.

The 6-8 Decatur, GA, native had arguably the best game of his Austin Peay career against Montana State, scoring a career-high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting, with nine rebounds and four blocked shots. He was named to the Central Michigan Tournament all-tourney team, shooting 68 percent from the floor and 73 percent from the free-throw line.

For his efforts last week, Horton was named College Sports Madness Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

Senior middle blocker Lauren Henderson, of the volleyball team, was named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Tournament team after posting 25 kills, a .250 attack percentage and nine blocks in two OVC Tournament contests last week, becoming the 17th Austin Peay player to earn all-tournament honors and first since 2010. She recorded 18 kills and six blocks in the Lady Govs semifinal loss to Morehead State.
