Clarksville High Lady Wildcats pick up season’s first win with 55-38 victory over Northeast

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School’s girls basketball team came into its District 10-AAA opener against Northeast High December 3rd still looking for its first win of season, but the Lady Wildcats held the Lady Eagles to single-figure scoring in three of the four quarters in picking up a 55-38 victory.

The victory is the 14th straight by Clarksville High (1-5, 1-0 District 10-AAA) over Northeast dating back to the 2008-09 season.

Clarksville High opened the game with an 8-0 run over the first 2:55 — with four different Lady Wildcats scoring — while Northeast (1-6, 0-1 District 10-AAA) finally got on the board at the 4:48 mark of the quarter on a basket by Ashanti Henry.

The Lady Wildcats would extend its lead back out to eight points, 12-4, on a basket by Hannah Goins, before Northeast scored three straight points to get to within five points with 2:27 left in the opening quarter.

The Lady Wildcats would close out the first quarter with a couple of baskets by Haley Bearden, with Northeast getting one from Sepe Moore to give CHS a seven-point advantage after eight minutes of play, 16-9.

Bearden would lead all scorers with 19 points.

The second quarter would see the Clarksville High build its biggest lead of the game, 12 points, over the first 5:51 of the period, with Northeast not scoring in the quarter until Michelle Donner knocked down a three at the 1:41 mark to cut the deficit to nine, 21-12.

Donner finished with 13 points for Northeast.

But Clarksville High closed out the first half by outscoring the Lady Eagles 4-2 to take an 11-point advantage into intermission, 25-14.

The third quarter would see Northeast warn up from behind the three-point line, as the Lady Eagles knocked down four during the period – including three from Ashanti Henry.

Henry would lead Northeast with 15 points.

But Northeast was only able to cut one point from the Lady Wildcats lead in the third, as Bearden and TaTayana Outlaw combined for 12 points in the quarter to offset the Northeast offensive outburst and keep the Lady Eagles at bay and hold a 10-point lead, 39-29 heading into the final quarter of play.

Outlaw finished with 15 points for CHS.

Clarksville High would put the game away in the first four minutes of the final quarter, as it put together a 5-0 run – including back-to-back buckets from Bearden – to build a 15-point cushion, 46-31, with four minutes left.
