Clarksville High head football coach Ken Busbee steps down after three seasons

Clarksville High School WildcatsClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School head football coach Ken Busbee turned in his resignation, December 4th, after three years at the helm of Montgomery County’s oldest football program.

Busbee had an overall record of 14-17 and 13-10 in District 10-AAA play in his three years, with only one trip to the post season coming in his first year, a 34-22 first-round loss to Beech High School.

“Coach Busbee met with the players and informed them that he had turned in his resignation,” Clarksville High athletic director Shannon Cummings said. “Coach (Derek) Crass was agreed to step in an interim head coach.

“I talked to the players after coach Busbee and let them know we would post the opening for a new head coach right away, but that it would take some time. It won’t be in the next week or two, or maybe even a month. We just want to make sure we get the right coach to take over the program. There is no set timetable for a new hire.”

Clarksville High finished this past season with a 4-6 record, 4-3 in 10-AAA.

“We want to thank coach Busbee for all of his hard work here at Clarksville High,” Cummings said. “He has done a lot of great things as far has having players get all-district recognition and some move on to the next level.

“I know right now he wants to have some time for reflection and be with his family and I know at some point he will want to come back as a head coach. Again, we want to thank him for his work here and wish him the best in the future.”

Busbee was in his 12th season coaching overall in Montgomery County, where he spent the first seven years as an assistant at Clarksville High – with one additional season at Montgomery Central High School.
