Clarksville, TN – For the third straight game Austin Peay will be facing a former Ohio Valley Conference foe. After defeating Youngstown State (1981-87), last Saturday, the Govs lost at home to ETSU (1957-1977).
This time the Govs will face Samford, OVC members beginning with the 2003-04 season and ending after the 2007-08 season. Tipoff is noon, Saturday, at the Pete Hanna Center.
The Govs saw their modest two-game winning streak snapped by East Tennessee, 80-74. It also represented Austin Peay’s first road loss this season.The game will be a battle between the Ohio Valley Conference 2012-13 Freshman of the Year Chris Horton and the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year Tim Williams.
This is the 21st meeting between Austin Peay, a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, and Samford, a member of the Southern Conference. The Governors hold a 15-6 edge on their former OVC rival. The Govs have won the last two meetings, including a 75-64 season-opening decision in Clarksville a year ago.
Samford comes in after losing 89-73 at home to UT Martin, Wednesday. The Bulldogs still are seeking their first win against a Division I opponent this season.
Samford is led by 6-8 forward Tim Williams (15.7 ppg,m 6.9 rpg), who was SoCon Freshman of the Year in 2012-13. They have another candidate this season in Isaiah Williams, who is averaging 13 ppg.

What A Win Would Mean: It would make the Governors 5-4…it would even APSU’s December mark at 1-1…it would improve APSU to 2-2 on the road this season and be its second straight road verdict..it would improve the Govs to 16-6 all-time in the series…it would be the Govs’ third straight win in the series…it would give Dave Loos a 13-5 mark against Samford…it would make Dave Loos 2-0 all-time against Samford coach Bennie Seltzer.
What A Loss Would Mean: The Govs would drop the Govs below the .500 mark at 4-5…it would drop APSU to 35-25 all-time against current Southern Conference members…it would be APSU’s second straight loss in the Pete Hanna Center…Loos would drop to 457-391 overall and 375-338 as the Governors head coach.
