Austin Peay State University Tennis adds Three for Spring

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Head coach Ross Brown is pleased to announce a trio of mid-year additions to Austin Peay State University’s tennis teams. James Mitchell will join the Govs as they get set to defend their Ohio Valley Conference title, while Hannah Tatlock and Isabela Jovanovic join the women’s squad.

Mitchell hails from Australia, where he was a two-time All-Australia player for Lee Jarvinen at Applecross High School. He was a three-time Slazenger Cup captain and winner of the prestigious Australian cup in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He was also the National School’s captain in 2010 and 2011.

Mitchell also was coached privately by Adam Carey – as was Tatlock – a former UNLV assistant coach and Tennessee student-athlete who served as National Academy Perth Head Coach in Australia beginning in 2012.

Tatlock was Nevada’s state champion in 2012, going 24-0 as a senior at Mojave High School in Las Vegas, earning the Review-Journal’s Female Tennis Athlete of the Year honor.  She concluded her high school career with a 70-6 mark, earning the first state tennis championship in Mojave’s history.

The co-Valedictorian for Clark County School District’s Virtual High School with a 3.9 grade-point average, Tatlock earned a Nevada Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship. She spent last season honing her game and assisting her father, David, who took over as coach at Mojave in 2013.

Jovanovic comes to Austin Peay from Brazil by way of Boca Raton, FL. She was a top-20 performer in Brazil at 14 years old, and represented Rio de Janeiro in the Federation’s Cup Championship, and played in International Tennis Federation in Croatia, Brazil and the United States.

Jovanovic comes from a family of athletes; her father Zdravko played professional basketball for KK Kvaner in Croatia as a teenager.

The spring season begins for Austin Peay’s women with a January 20th event against Chattanooga. The men’s season begins four days later against Northern Kentucky.
