APSU’s Chris Horton earns Tennessee Sports Writers Weekly basketball honor

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Chris Horton, who shot more than 70 percent from the floor in averaging nearly 18 points per game last week in three Austin Peay State University basketball contests, has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

That was announced Tuesday.

The Decatur, GA, native converted 23 of 31 shots (74.2 percent) from the floor last week in averaging 17.7 points per game.

He opened the week by recording 16 points and 10 boards at Vanderbilt, his sixth double-double of the season, and followed that with 15 points and nine caroms against Lipscomb.

The 6-foot-8 sophomore matched his career-high with 23 points while grabbing nine more rebounds, Saturday, versus East Tennessee, ending a stretch of three games in five days for APSU. That contest represented the ninth straight game Horton scored double digits.

Horton’s strong performance last week came on the heels of him earning OVC Player of the Week honors the previous week.

For the season, Horton is averaging 14.3 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game. He is shooting 62.5 percent from the floor.
