Chris Horton named APSU Athlete of the Week

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – For the fourth time in the last five weeks, sophomore center Chris Horton, of Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Decatur, GA, native averaged 17.7 points and shot 70 percent from the field in the Govs final three pre-Christmas contests. He also earned his season’s sixth double-double with a 16-point, 10-rebound effort at Vanderbilt, Tuesday.

Horton concluded the week with a career-high tying 23 points at East Tennessee State, his ninth straight game in double figures. He’s now averaging 14.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and shooting 62.5 percent from the floor this season.

Tuesday, Horton earned the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, his first career award from the association.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Freshman center Tearra Banks, of the women’s basketball team, earned Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week honors after being named to the all-tournament team at the Wichita State Winter Classic. She averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds in three games last week, including her second career double-double – a 17-point, 12-rebound effort – against Wichita State, Saturday.
