Northwest High Lady Vikings beat White House 41-26 for season’s second win

Northwest High School VikingsDover, TN – Northwest High School never trailed in the second half, December 28th at the Bill Craig Memorial Gymnasium, in their losers’ bracket game of the Stewart County High School Christmas Tournament in defeating White House, 41-26.

Leading by two at halftime, Northwest (2-12) scored the first eight points of the third quarter to build a 10-point advantage, 27-17, with 4:06 left in the period.

White House (2-7) would answer back with the final four points of the quarter to cut the Lady Vikings lead back to six points, 27-21, heading into the final eight minutes of play.

The final quarter would see Northwest get a basket from Taylor Senseney to push the lead back out to eight points, with 6:43 left in the game.

Senseney would lead all scorers with 17 points.

The Blue Devils would hit two of four free throws to make it a six-point game, 29-23, with 5:24 left, but that would be as close as White House would get the rest of the way.

Northwest would outscore White House 12-3 over the final 3:35 to post the 15-point victory.

In the first half, Northwest got an early three-point bucket from Keya Ross at the 6:52 mark to take a 3-2 lead, but wouldn’t score again for over four minutes, as White House ran off six straight points to take a 8-3 lead, with 3:55 left in the opening quarter.

Taylor Senseney would end the Lady Vikings scoreless run with a basket at the 2:49 mark to make it 8-5.

A bucket by Blue Devils Michaela Willbanks made it 10-5 White House, with 1:32 left, but a free throw by Jordan Nixon in the final minute of the opening quarter got the Lady Vikings back to four points down, 10-6, after the end of the first eight minutes of play.

The second quarter would see Senseney step up huge for Northwest, as she tallied 11 points in the period, including the final seven points of the quarter for the Lady Vikings, as they outscored White House 13-7 in the period to take a 19-17 lead into intermission.

Senseney totaled 13 points in the first half.

Northwest will conclude its play in the tournament on December 30th, as they face the loser of the Dec. 28th Stewart County-Montgomery Central semifinal in the third/fourth place game.
