Nicole Olszewski named APSU Athlete of the Week

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Senior guard Nicole Olszewski, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named this week’s Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Olszewski was all over the floor in Austin Peay’s first Ohio Valley Conference win against Morehead State, Monday, scoring 11 points and adding nine rebounds to go along with a team-high seven assists and three steals in the 83-75 victory that snapped Austin Peay’s 10-game losing streak. Both the rebound and assist numbers were season-highs for the Pickerington, Ohio, native.

In two games last week, Olszewski averaged 12 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 assists. She scored 13 points and pulled down five boards in the Lady Govs loss at Murray State, Saturday.

Since Olszewski returned to action against UT Martin after sitting out a game for the first time in her collegiate career due to injury, Austin Peay’s offense has seen a sharp spike in numbers, averaging 77.3 points and 17.3 assists over the last three games, well above the Lady Govs season averages.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Sophomore guard Zavion Williams, of the men’s basketball team, came off the bench to score 16 points – his fourth consecutive double-digit effort – and tied a career high with seven assists in the Govs loss at Murray State.
  • Freshman Amia Butler, of the track and field team, won the 60m hurdles event at the Saluki Open, shaving four-tenths of a second off her qualifying time with an 8.90 run in the finals. She also ran the second leg of Austin Peay’s 4x400m relay team that earned a runner-up finish with a 4:04.35 mark.
