Austin Peay State University’s Tearra Banks gets third adidas OVC Freshman honor

Brentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball freshman center Tearra Banks has notched her third adidas®OVC Freshman of the Week honor, the league announced Tuesday.

Banks, of Louisville, KY, earned her third weekly league honor after averaging 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game during the Lady Govs wins at Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville.

She scored a career-best 19 points at SIUE, Monday, converting on 8-of-14 shots while grabbing seven rebounds. Banks began the week with a 4-of-4 shooting effort at Eastern Illinois, Saturday, en route to a nine-point, four-rebound performance in just 10 minutes.

Banks’ three freshman honors are the most for an Austin Peay player since Whitney Hanley received the award three times during the 2008-09 campaign. She leads all OVC freshmen with the three honors with six weeks remaining this season.

Austin Peay begins a three-game homestand with a 3:00pm, Saturday contest against Tennessee Tech.
